2017 – 2018 Green Team Application

In April 2016, West TV’s Green School Certification was renewed with Oregon Green Schools (www.oregongreenschools.org).  The Green Team helped with the waste audit and will continue to help improve the school’s green goals.

In the fall of 2016, the Green Team is helping to create a nature trail and restore the vegetation corridor along North Johnson Creek in our neighborhood as of part of the Westhaven neighborhood grant from the Metro Council through the Regional Government’s Nature in Neighborhoods (NIN) program.

The Green Team accepts applications from 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade each spring.

How West TV Became a Green School:
On Earth Day, the West Tualatin View Elementary School and its Green Team was awarded a“2007-08 Green School” certificate from the Beaverton School District. This award was for completing the required trash audit, improving recycling percentages and introducing co-mingling of recyclables to all the students. Ruth Deal gave a short talk about the history of Earth Day and recycling plastic bags and how we might reduce this trash by using reusable bags.  A Plastic Roundup competition was conducted and had great results. West TV students collected 205 pounds of plastic grocery and merchandise bags! That translates into approximately 13,700 bags! They were stuffed into cars and taken to Far West for recycling.
